[Lightpaint] – For events – Learn more

Your guests become the artwork.

Lightpaint is a live light-portrait experience. Guests are painted with light while a custom system turns their movement into a luminous, evolving portrait, projected live for the whole room. Each person leaves with their own image and a short video of it forming.

It draws a crowd, gets people playing, and produces something they actually want to keep.

A live art experience, not a photo booth

An artist moves a wireless light orb around each guest while a custom application accumulates every gesture into a single composition, projected live as it forms. The process feels intimate even when the whole room is watching. It is open and low-pressure: strokes can be added, erased, or tried again. Every move is valid.

For most people it is pure play, a chance to move freely and see themselves differently. For those who want to go further, it becomes an invitation to express a feeling or an idea with the body. Either way, guests leave with a still image and an animated version that traces the entire arc of the creation, mesmerizing to watch and entirely theirs.

Why it works for your event

It’s fun, and people lean in. Guests arrive with their own ideas, props, and creative visions. There is a lot of laughter as the images come together, and the playful, side-by-side creating is where a team really connects.

It draws the room in. The image builds in real time on a large projection, so people gather to watch. It becomes the moment everyone is talking about, and a natural conversation starter between guests who do not usually interact.

Everyone can do it. There is no skill required and no wrong way to do it. The guests who hesitate are often the ones who end up loving it most.

It keeps going after the event. Each guest receives a share-ready image and a short video of their creation. The animated results are highly shareable and make the kind of image people are happy to use as a profile picture, so the conversation continues online long after the room clears.

It is turnkey. Small footprint, one standard outlet, and the artist brings everything. It fits into offsites, galas, activations, and intimate VIP gatherings alike.

Ways to present Lightpaint

Team experience / offsite. Guests take part in small groups while the projection evolves and the rest of the team watches. Ideal for team days, retreats, and company culture moments. Roughly ten groups per hour.

Brand activation. A high-novelty, photogenic centrepiece for launches, trade shows, and experiential campaigns. Branding and meaningful objects can be composed into the live image, and the resulting content is built to be shared.

Gala and live A/V. For evening and stage contexts, Lightpaint runs as a live audiovisual performance alongside a DJ or musical set, with the light strokes composed in relation to the music on a large, semitransparent screen.

Throughout the event, the finished creations can play in a loop on screen, turning the installation into a live, growing gallery of the night’s guests and a stream of on-brand visual content that builds as the evening goes on.

Private and VIP session. A deeper, guided one-on-one experience for a member, a guest of honour, or a curated high-end group. The result is a layered, personal portrait and a felt sense of having been seen, not just photographed.

How it works

  1. Real-time creation. A custom system simulates long-exposure photography, layering each gesture into a single evolving frame as it happens.
  2. Light as brush. A wireless light source and controller let the artist paint in space with precise control and full freedom to explore.
  3. Open and forgiving. The process is non-linear. Strokes can be revised, added, or restarted.
  4. Instant delivery. Guests get their still image and animated video on the spot, by QR code, ready to share before they have even left the station.
  5. Guided or light-touch. Fully facilitated by the artist, or run in a lighter self-directed mode, depending on the setting.

“There’s something powerful about watching your own gesture turn into light. I felt proud of the image, like it reflected not just what I look like, but how I feel inside.” — N.

“My experience was that I was able to express myself and see the results as the process went. I felt excited and in awe of the process and results.” — S.

About the artist

Alfonso Hernandez is an interactive artist and creative technologist based in Montreal, working at the intersection of art, play, and experience design. His work uses technology and game mechanics as a gateway, giving people permission to explore, create, and connect, often one small step outside their comfort zone.

His background spans interactive installations for museums, public spaces, and festivals, alongside a practice as a facilitator. That dual experience shapes how he designs: playful and accessible on the surface, with room for something deeper for those who want it.

Part of a larger world of experiences
